I hope this may not be the last time I get to write this. And I’m sorry if this post has been uploaded a day late…
To all teachers whom I’ve had in the past years, and in the present, I may not be able to give you anything apart from good results, but I truly appreciate what you’ve done to help me along the way.
To Ms Low, thank you so much for looking out for me during my time in primary school. Thank you so much for giving me opportunities to motivate and advance myself, and for taking me places. I have you deep in my heart, and I never forget your quick wit and sense of humour.
To Puan Rosnah, thank you also for looking out for me. The time I spent with you and Ms Low – I’ll always remember it.
To Mrs Phua and Cik Azalea, thank you for sharing with me that passion for music. I may have thrashed everyone back in my time in SK Convent (1) Bukit Nanas, but it was wonderful to have had someone to share this passion with.
To Puan Rohani and Puan Mariani, the first class teachers I ever had, thank you for watching over me and the rest of my class. And I also thank you for dispelling the fear and anxiety I had about Years 1-3. Bahasa Malaysia and Maths classes were a joy for me.
To Cik (or Puan ?) Heryanti, thank you for helping me improve my Bahasa Malaysia tremendously. I fondly recall the Kem Motivasi back in Year 6, when you and all the other teachers were there, and you were just so proud to see us excel.
To Puan Rosni, I thank you, because the way you taught English in Form 1 had a significant impact on me. I was captivated, to say the least, and it’s a pity you had to be transferred.
To Puan Nor Haida, my (General) Science and (later) Biology teacher, thank you for making Biology a breeze. Again, I was captivated in your classes.
To Ms Joaan, my mentor and trainer for Ressonnant Inc., thank you very much for bringing to my mind lots of things about me. Thank you also for sharing the faith, and for being with us till this very day – and for making Ressonnant Inc. one of the formidable school choirs in Malaysia.
To Puan Wahida, my Bahasa Malaysia teacher, thank you very much for bringing my command of Bahasa Malaysia to what it is today – commendable. Thank you also for sharing with me that passion for music, which I thought everyone had lost in my early years in secondary school. The Puisi Berlagu competitions and everything else actually rekindled my interest and gave me hope to carry on pursuing my dreams (even if at the end of the day, they were broken).
To Puan Norliza and Puan Maryati, my History teachers, thank you for making History a breeze – and for the sharing sessions we had in the staff room. They’re just so… memorable !
To Miss Woon, my Living Skills teacher, thank you for believing in me despite everyone turning against me when I was in Form 1. You gave me much solace during that time of difficulty and I’m indebted to you.
To Mrs Siva, my History teacher and senior assistant… it’s a pity you had to retire. And I thank you for every single step of the way you took with me. It’s a coincidence that you entered the teaching profession the same year I was born, and you retired the same year I left school……. I wonder what that might mean.
To Puan Hanizah, Mrs Alice George and Mrs Ann Khoo, thank you for looking out for me during my years in secondary school. The discours we had together… I’ll always remember them. Also, thanks to Mrs Ann Khoo for being by my side during mom’s demise.
To Peter Yap, I’m indebted to you for giving us the most memorable English classes of my entire life. No one else has taught this well in the language, or used other media, or done away with the textbook – and you’ve given me something to look forward to. Also, I admire the idea you helped us put together for our inter-class drama. For this, I thank you.
To Puan Sarjit and Mrs Tee, my English teachers and class teachers, thank you very much for looking out for me and for having some discours regarding the language.
To Datin Christie, thanks for sharing the faith with me, and for praying for us. Thanks also for encouraging me to take Bible Studies to delve into the Christian faith. Et grand merci de me parler en français de temps en temps !
To all whom I have forgotten, or whose names I can’t recall, I thank you for being a part of my life.
And to all teachers, I look forward to meeting you again…… now, let’s hope that I make it back alive.
Happy Teachers’ Day.
