This evening, Aimée, Ling and I decided to have instant noodles. After discovering that they were going to serve fish cooked in saffron this evening (yuck !), we finally decided to have something more..... satisfying, I'd say.
When I returned to KL I told dad and Rin, the only time they actually made an effort to give us better meals was when the chairperson of the National Service Department paid a visit to Camp Miri. That time, we had Cocoa Frosties. If the authorities say that they spend a lot for the meals of every single trainee, then explain the yucky meals please ?
Let's say they spend RM30 for a meal. Real waste of money RM30 is enough to buy dishes of rice, veggies and venison, and possibly another dish – for three. Not trying to suggest that a meal costs RM30, but here's the point : if it's expensive like they claim it to be, then they could at least give us something a lot more satisfying. Or, they should allow us to enter the kitchen and prepare our own meals. Four fish fillets placed in the oven with sauces, it's heavenly and it costs less than RM4 (in KL, at least) ! It'd cost a lot less in Miri !
I understand how difficult it is to put a stop to corruption entirely, but… we can SURELY do something about it ! Rice everyday is a big no-no. Why didn't they introduce dishes of different ethnicities ? That's a step towards integration, if you ask me, and we'll obviously be hoping for a change every single day. Everyone trying everyone else's dishes. Now that's seriously something !
Everytime we complain that there's nothing but FISH everyday, our complaints get rejected. They think we're trying to go against the existing system. But heck, we've got no intention of doing so. Because if the evaluation of National Service were an exam, every weakness discovered in the camp would mean less brownie points for the organisers. (Heck, they've lost quite a great deal of brownie points ; why the effing hell am I mentioning it anyway ?)
I wasn't the only one complaining back when we returned to the room. Qina and Aimée told me quite a great deal. The Committee thinks that we're conspiring, when it actually isn't the case. WE'RE EFFING FED UP OF THE MENU HERE ! FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, PLEASE INTRODUCE SOMETHING ELSE !
Well, at least there's fruit. =(
If this continues even after my NS session, then I know who to vote for in the next elections (since the previous elections were in March 2008, we have four years to go). And four years, that isn't quite a long time.
