Repas avant Carême, partie II

(or, Musings on the culture of death)

What I saw before the pre-Lenten lunch gathering with the UHSU Catholic Society crew really broke my heart. Well, there was this health awareness exhibition, and it was Shrove Tuesday (Mardi Gras), and booths were put up in the Forum right before lunch hour. Pancake fever aside, I could go on and on about these pictures. But to preserve your sanity, I won’t.

P1010031

UH Vive, the Halls Association, distributing pancake kits for £1. Those who already hit the Facebook Like button on UH Vive would get it for 50p. I had already hit the Like button when I began my academic year, and I got mine for 50p!

P1010038

The pancake kit contained all the ingredients needed for one person’s portion of pancakes. Believe it or not, I haven’t touched it yet… ^_^’ and Lent has already begun! I might consider using the items separately, but oh well.

An overview of the health exhibition.

P1010033

I’m not sure what this was, but it looked to me like some sort of advice booth. I snapped it anyway.

P1010036

The exhibition seemed to draw quite a number of people. There were booths offering tips on dieting, self-esteem, sexual health (of all things…) — and…

…teenage pregnancy. This one broke my heart for obvious reasons. Contraception was being advertised, and nothing was done to address the fact that promiscuity abounded. I decided to go and take a look at that booth myself to see if their options were reasonable. Abortion was one of those “options”, in fact, the first. Oh, how my heart ached. When the people manning the booth asked me to take a leaflet, I did not. I was disgusted.

This booth says it all. This, my friends, is the actual reason why abortion happens — the inaptitude of controlling one’s body leads to promiscuity, promiscuity taken further leads to premarital sex, and when they soon realise what has happened to them, they aren’t ready to accept the responsibilities and consequences that happen as a result — and they choose to terminate the baby’s life in the process. Not rape, not incest, no matter how much the possibility can be proven. The two are the major excuses for prolonging the culture of death, when in actual fact, people are not taking their bodies (and their souls) seriously at all.

I didn’t bring it up during the luncheon. I’m bringing it up now because it’s much easier for me to put it in writing. But “health” in the youth context has taken on a distorted view now, and I wonder what it would take for us to bring back the original meaning of “health”.

It’s for this reason that I stayed away from third-year subjects Medical Law and Human Rights. These two subjects have the potential to be equally distorted in nature. And I shall not have it.

Lent began yesterday with Ash Wednesday, the imposition of ashes and the beginning of a holy season of fast, abstinence, prayer and drawing closer to God through our actions. This Lent, I want to spare a thought for, and even pray for the lives of the unborn. How many more lives must be taken away for us to realise?

Amen. Just like having to put up with evolution, the theory of, in science classes. Moral relativity.

i really love this post.. its an eye opener and many should read
we have settled in a time where people are claiming equal rights but are denying others it. the unborn babies... and even claiming a right that they are not ready to have.
you want a right but you go and sleep with a guy who has no intention of being with you. now tell me is that a right??
because chances are after he dumps you... you will regret what you ever did with him and to me that is not a right

what is more beautiful than, a man coming into your family home and asking for your hand in marriage, now that is a right. you have the choice and whatever you choose...you chose it

i don't even mind if people are in a respectable relationship. these days they advertise contraception because they no everyone is doing it with any and everyone. that to me is not right

and the sad thing is that they kill the child... the innocent child after... now is that the right they want. there families wanting kids but they can't whiles people are murdering them as if they were roaches.
that is disgusting

I know, right?

These people always want to say the opposite about families wanting kids... I had a debate with a third-year student and compatriot, and she was pro-life... with "unnecessary pro-choice exceptions", as another friend put it. I was cut off almost every time during the debate, and it was heartbreaking. What's more, she even said that I was forcing my opinion on her. I suppose it's understandable as I was going on angry and sad overtones, but you either take the pro-life argument in full, or take nothing at all.

As a law student you'd realise that Article 2 of the ECHR (on the right to life) covers everything but unborn life. I'd like to see the EU's downfall because of this...

Haha. I thought that was funny, too. :)

Again, we never know. ^_- It's high time Hibernia, Brittania, Marianne and Michel (Ireland, Britain, France and Germany) took to their heels and fled because of this whole anti-life stance. Ireland is already seeking to take to its heels. Without the four of them, the EU is history. x
